Results of the Gulf teams in the first round of the AFC U-23 Cup qualifiers
This month the journey of the Gulf teams began in the race to qualify for the 2024 AFC U-23 Cup finals in Qatar, where 42 teams will compete for seats in the tournament that begins in April of next year.
In the first round of Group 7 competitions, the UAE national team tied with host China 0-0 at Suoyan Stadium in Dalian, while the Yemen national team made a strong start after defeating Singapore 3-0 at Viet Tri City Stadium, in the first round of Group 3 competitions.
The host Bahrain national team lost to the Palestine national team 1-0 at Sheikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Stadium in Arad, in the first round of the fourth group competitions, while the Oman national team won over Syria 2-0 on Wednesday at Prince Muhammad Stadium in Zarqa, in the first round of the first group competitions.
The Iraqi national team achieved a major victory over Macau with a score of 13-0 at the Kuwait Club Stadium in Kuwait, in the first round of the sixth group competitions, and the second match in the same group also witnessed the victory of host Kuwait over East Timor 4-0, at Jaber International Stadium.
The Saudi national team came from behind to win over Mongolia 3-1 at Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Stadium in Abha, in the first round of the tenth group competitions.
The Qatar national team defeated the host South Korea 2-0 in the match that was held at the Changwon City Football Complex Stadium, in the first round of the second group competitions.
It is noteworthy that the qualifying matches will be held in three rounds from September 6 to 12, with the participating teams distributed into 11 groups whose matches will be held in a divided league system of one stage.
The first-place team in each group qualifies for the finals, along with the four best second-place teams, to join the host Qatar team.
The sixth edition in the tournament’s history will be held from April 15 to May 3, 2024.
