The third Gulf Cup.. Ahmed Trabelsi is the best with a clean sheet

After the first edition in Bahrain, and the second in Saudi Arabia, during which Al-Azraq achieved the Gulf title, Kuwait hosted the third edition of the tournament, which was held from March 15 to 29, 1974, at the Kuwait Club Stadium.

That version witnessed a change in the competition system, due to the increase in the participating teams to 6, so it was divided into two groups, the first included Kuwait, Qatar, and Oman, while the second included Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, and Bahrain, so that the first and second of each group qualified.

It is noteworthy in that version that 5 teams out of the 6 participants were led by Egyptian technicians, where the Saudi team was led by Abdo Saleh Al-Wahsh, the UAE was led by Muhammad Siddiq (Shehta), Oman Mamdouh Khafaji, Bahrain Hamada Al-Sharqawi, and Qatar Helmy Hussein Mahmoud, while Kuwait led the Yugoslavian Ljubisa Brushitch.

In the first group, Kuwait advanced with four points from two wins, and Qatar with two points from a single victory against Oman, while Saudi Arabia advanced from the second with four points, and the UAE from a single victory against Bahrain. Kuwait and Saudi Arabia advanced to the final meeting, while Al-Annabi faced Qatar and Al-Abyad Al-Emirati in a confrontation to determine the third place, which went to Al-Anabi on penalties 4/1.

The final meeting between the Kuwaiti Blue and the Saudi Green in favor of Al-Azraq came with four clean goals, signed by: Fathi Kamil (two goals) and Hamad Bu Hamad (two goals).

With 6 goals, the Kuwaiti star Jassem Yaqoub achieved the title of top scorer in the tournament, while: Ali Al-Mulla, Muhammad Al-Moghnam, and Fathi Kamil scored four goals, and three goals for each of: Fouad Bushaqer, Ya’id Mazkour, Salem Sultan, and Hamad Bu Hamad scored two goals.

While one goal was scored by: Hassan Zuleikh, Mohsen Bakhit, Abdul Khaleq Saad, Salah Dafallah, Anbar Bashir, Abdul Amir Zain, Suhail Salem, Zaid Rabei, Ali Asiri, Khaled Al-Turki, Hassan Ali, Muhammad Shuaib, Hussein Muhammad, Naji Abdul-Matloub Muhammad Ghanem, and Saif Ali.
