Second Gulf Cup.. Kuwaiti Blue crowned by goal difference

The second Gulf Cup was held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from March 15 to 25, 1972, and the confrontations were hosted by Al-Malaz Stadium in Riyadh, with the participation of 4 teams: Saudi Arabia led by the Egyptian Taha Ismail, Kuwait led by the Yugoslavian Ljubisa Brosic, Qatar led by the Sudanese Mohamed Hassan Khairy, and the Emirates led by the Egyptian Mohamed friend (shehta).

The championship title was won by the Kuwaiti team, which equaled its Saudi brother in points, as they both played three matches, won two and drew in one, achieving 5 points, but the goal difference was in favor of the Kuwaiti Blues, who managed to score 14 goals and conceded two goals, while Saudi Arabia scored 10 goals and conceded two goals, to clinch the title for the Blues for the second time. The Emirati White came third with two points from a sole victory against Qatar, and the Qatari Al-Annabi fourth without a score.

Saeed Al-Ghamdi (Saeed Al-Ghurab), one of the best players in Al-Nasr and the Saudi national team, managed to score 5 goals, to be the top scorer in the second edition (it is noteworthy that Saeed Al-Ghurab is the record holder for scoring goals in one match, as he scored 8 goals in a match that brought together Al-Nasr and Al-Najma).

While the Kuwaiti stars, Ali Al-Mulla, Jassim Yaqoub, Hamad Bu Hamad, scored three goals, while the Kuwaiti Muhammad Shuaib and the missile, Muhammad Al-Moghnam, the Saudi star, scored two goals, and one goal for each of the Emirati Suhail Salem, and the Cubans, Saleh Abdullah and Karim Nassar.
