Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia beats Al Jazira of the United Arab Emirates and qualifies for the semi-finals of the Club World Cup

Saudi Al Hilal FC qualified for the semi-finals after beating Al Jazira of the United Arab Emirates 6-1 on Sunday at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, within the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup in the UAE.

Al Jazira advanced through Abdullah Diaby’s goal in the 14th minute, before Al Hilal responded with six goals through Odion Ighalo in the 36th minute, Matthews Pereira in the 40th minute, Mohamed Kno in the 57th minute, Salem Al-Dosari in the 77th minute, Moussa Mariga in the 88th minute, and Andre Carrillo in the 90+2 minute from a penalty kick.

Al Hilal, the 2021 AFC Champions League champion, qualified for the second time in this tournament, to meet in the semi-finals on Wednesday with Chelsea, the champion of the European Champions League.

Al-Jazira started the match strongly to succeed in opening the scoring after 14 minutes, when Mohamed Rabei sprinted from the right side and passed towards Abdallah Diaby to shoot confidently into the net.

After that, the preference shifted to Al Hilal, who pressed for a change in the result, to score the equalizer in the 36th minute when Odion Ighalo rose to Mohamed Kno’s pass and headed the ball into the goal.

Then the Saudi team added the second goal after Matthews Pereira received Musa Mariga’s pass and hit a ground ball in the 40th minute.

And the pressure of Al Hilal continued at the beginning of the second half, to add the third goal through Kno, who rose to the corner kick taken by Pereira and headed the ball into the net in the 57th minute.

Al-Jazira tried to launch some offensive attempts in order to modify the result, but Al-Hilal added the fourth goal through Salem Al-Dosari, who exchanged passes with Mariga and singled out the goal to evade goalkeeper Ali Khaseef and hit the net in the 77th minute.

Then the Saudi team scored the fifth goal through Marega, who took advantage of the Derbeka inside the penalty area to follow the ball and hit it, and continuing its way into the goal in the 88th minute.

Substitute Andre Carrillo added the fifth goal through a penalty kick awarded as a result of defender Khalifa Al Hammadi touching his hand inside the penalty area in the 90 + 2 minute.

They will meet in the second match in the semi-finals of the Brazilian Almeras with Al-Ahly of Egypt, who defeated Monterrey of Brazil 1-0 in the quarter-finals on Saturday.

Al Jazira qualified for this round after their 4-1 victory against Tahiti League champions Perai, in the first round of the tournament.
