FIFA publishes a report on the return of international matches to Baghdad

The International Football Association (FIFA) website published a report on the return of football matches to the capital, Baghdad, after years of separation as a result of the ban on holding international matches since 2013, in addition to following the match of the Iraqi national team against its Ugandan counterpart, which was hosted by Al-Madina International Stadium in the capital. Baghdad, on the evening of January 21, which ended with Iraq’s victory with a goal scored by striker Alaa Abbas in the 17th minute of the match, which was led by a Kuwaiti refereeing team.

The report relates to FIFA’s view of Iraqi football and its work strategy for the next four years.

The report mentioned the views of the Minister of Youth and Sports, President of the Iraqi Football Association, Adnan Darjal, and the Secretary-General, Muhammad Farhan, with two statements, in addition to a report presented by the Director of Development (FIFA) in the Dubai Regional Office, Issam Al-Suhaibani, after he supervised the friendly international match between Iraq and Uganda, and his three-day visit to the capital, Baghdad, in addition to discussing potential projects, followed by another visit by Suhaibani scheduled for this February.

And the official FIFA website on the international information network quoted the president of the Iraqi Football Association, Adnan Darjal, as saying: “The assistance of the International Football Association is of paramount importance to us at the present time.”

He added, “Iraq has huge football potential, but to turn it into a success we have to work hard.”

He explained, “Recently, FIFA has implemented a lot of changes, but for us this is just the beginning.”

Drajal thanked FIFA by saying: “We would like to thank FIFA for its continued support.”

For its part, the FIFA website quoted the Secretary-General of the Iraqi Football Association, Muhammad Farhan, as saying: “It must be understood that the Iraqi Football Association not only receives great financial support from the International Federation through the FORWORD program, but also a high-quality strategy advice.

Farhan continued, “There are many proposals about good governance, the financial health of the organization, technical issues, and many other aspects of football.”
