Advocaat apologizes for not completing the journey with the Lions of Mesopotamia

Dutch coach Dick Advocaat, coach of the Iraqi national football team, resigned after four months, during which he did not achieve any victory in the six matches he played in the World Cup qualifiers.

Dutch reports quoted Advocaat statements in which he said: You must reach your conclusions if you do not see an impression, the expectations did not match the possibilities,” and stressed that the Iraqi team was in a transitional stage.

Advocaat trained the Iraqi team last August with the aim of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and after four draws and two defeats, the Iraqi team ranked second from the bottom in its group, ten points behind the South Korean team who is in the second-place, the place whose owner qualifies directly for the World Cup, but it is 2 points away behind the UAE team, which is in third place.

The Iraqi team was the seventh team coached by Advocaat, which reached the semi-finals in Euro 2004 with the Dutch national team, and also led Zenit St Petersburg, Rangers and PSV Eindhoven to crown local titles.
