The Saudi national team succeeded in snatching points in the Gulf Derby in the first round of the group stage of the Asian Cup Qatar 2023, against its Omani opponent, after winning 2-1, in the match hosted by Khalifa International Stadium in the first round of Group Six, which includes alongside them Kyrgyzstan and Thailand.

The Omani Reds took the lead in the 14th minute of the match through Salah Al Yahyai from a penalty kick, and the Saudi Greens returned in the 78th minute through Abdul Rahman Gharbab, and in stoppage time (90 + 6), Ali Al Bulayhi scored the winning goal for the Greens to achieve the first three points on the way to achieving the fourth title.

In the second round, the Green will face its Kyrgyz counterpart on January 21, while the Red will face the Thailand team with the goal of achieving victory, reviving its hopes of snatching the ticket to the second round.
