Iraq accompanied Yemen to the semi-finals of the tenth junior championship
The Iraqi team joined the Yemeni team as the second qualifiers for the semi-finals of the 10th West Asian Federation Junior Championship, hosted by the Omani Federation at the Al Saada Complex Stadium in Salalah.
The Iraqi team tied with its Omani counterpart with a score of 1-1, raising its score to 4 points in second place in the first group, with a separate goal difference over the Omani team.
For its part, the Yemeni team confirmed its lead in the group with a full score of nine points after the victory it achieved over its Lebanese counterpart with a score of 2-0.
With the conclusion of the third and final round of the first round of the first group competitions, the Oman and Lebanon teams exited the tournament in the first round after finishing in third and fourth places, respectively.
The second round witnessed Yemen’s victory over Oman with an unanswered goal, and the Iraqi team outperformed its Lebanese counterpart by three clean goals. Before that, Yemen had previously won over Iraq 2-1 in the first round, which also witnessed Oman’s victory over Lebanon 1-0.
The group stage concludes on Saturday, December 16, 2023, with two matches in the second group, between Syria and Jordan at five o’clock in the evening, Oman time, and between the UAE and Saudi Arabia at eight o’clock.
The Saudi team leads the group with 4 points, followed by the UAE and Syria with 3 points each, then Jordan with one point.
In the second round, the Syrian team achieved victory over its Emirati counterpart with a score of 1-0, while the Jordanian and Saudi teams tied with a score of 2-2.
The Saudi team previously won the first round over Syria with a score of two goals to zero, while the Emirati team beat its Jordanian counterpart with a clean goal.
