Qatar’s Al-Gharafa to the quarter-finals of the Emir Cup

Al-Gharafa succeeded in qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Emir Cup 2023 in the fifty-first edition, after defeating Qatar 1/4 in the confrontation that brought them together, at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium in Al-Duhail Club, at the end of the round of sixteen matches, to complete the contract for the teams qualified for the quarter-finals in which they face a team  Al-Shahaniya.

Ahmed Alaa opened the scoring for Al Gharafa, the third golden record holder in the tournament with seven crowns, in the 11th minute, before Algerian Yassine Brahimi doubled the score in the 18th minute, Ahmed Al Janahi the third goal in the 45th minute, and Moayad Hassan the fourth goal in the 83rd minute, while the Moroccan international player Badr Bannon scored Qatar’s only goal in the 49th minute from a penalty kick.

The match was good for the two teams, with the advantage of Al-Gharafa, who succeeded in imposing its style on the midfield, benefiting from the experience of its Algerian professional, Yassine Brahimi, who imposed himself as a star of the match, in addition to the success of the Portuguese coach Pedro Martinez in tightening his control over the area of operations and playing with balance in the three lines.

Muaither, one of the second-division league teams, achieved a resounding surprise – the third after Al-Sailiya and Al-Shahaniya – by reaching the quarter-finals of the 2023 Emir Cup, after surpassing Al-Ahly by three goals to one in the meeting that took place at Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium on the same round.

Muaither became the second team from the second division to reach the quarter-finals of the fifty-first edition of the tournament, after Al-Shahaniya, who qualified at the expense of Al-Wakra yesterday with a penalty shootout (3-1) after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Thus, Muaither qualifies for the first time in its history for the quarter-final round of the Emir Cup, and it will face Al-Arabi, who qualified for the same round at the expense of Al-Shamal.

While Al-Ahly, who won the first title in the championship among four trophies before, failed to pass the same round, as it did in the previous version.
