Mohammed Salem Al-Enezi .. The goalkeeper who was crowned top scorer in the Gulf Cup

A top scorer who started as a goalkeeper in Al-Tadamon Club, which is active in the second division, for five years, 1986-1990. Some compared him to the Mexican Jorge Campos, but in the opposite way, as he turned from a goalkeeper to a distinguished scorer, while Campos moved from the center of the spear head to the goalkeeper, he is the striker. The international and top scorer of the unique type, Muhammad Salem Fadel Ghazi Marzouq Al-Subaie Al-Anzi, who was born on November 22, 1976.

The star of Umm Salal Club, and the Qatari Al Rayyan, which he moved to in 1994, and played with them in more than 100 matches, began his football career with the popular neighborhood teams in Umm Salal. He moved from them to Al Rayyan, which was the turning point in his life from the last player in the team standing between three sticks, to the spearhead of the scorer who wanders and shines in the opponents’ area, and is feared by the goalkeepers.

Al-Enezi achieved fame with Al-Rayyan that brought him to the world, as he had a professional experience with the most famous Europeans, Bayern Munich, and played in his ranks against Paris Saint-Germain and other clubs, but the coach was not convinced by him, and did not write the experience to completion, so he returned to Al-Rayyan, then moved to a Turkish team for a brief duration.

At the end of the 1999/1998 season, he was loaned to Kuwaiti Al-Qadisiya, and in 1999 he was loaned to Al-Nasr Saudi Arabia. He scored 7 goals in 9 league matches, and made the goal that qualified Al-Nasr for the world fume of Bulgarian Hristo Stoichkov. Asian Cups at the expense of the South Korean Samsung 1998, and the short experience with Al-Nasr, where he played with them in the two-legged matches in the Asian Cup Winners Cup final, was a strong motivation for him to fly towards the world, where he himself stated: “Playing alongside big names is a real test, if you play Together with Stoichkov and Majid Abdullah, it becomes difficult for you to play well with teams that have normal elements.”

Al-Enezi then moved to the Emirati Al-Wahda in 2000, and in January 2004 he moved to the Emirati Al-Jazira, and since 2006 he played for the UAE club Al-Wasl, then in the summer of 2008 he moved to the Emirati Al-Nassr and played for them for 6 months, to announce his retirement, but he returned in 2019 and played for Quattro Club UAE second division league.

Al-Enezi has won more than one title at the individual level, and was crowned top scorer in the Qatari league twice in 1995 and 2000 with 9 and 14 goals respectively, and the Emirati twice also in 2001 and 2002, and in each of them scored 22 goals, and is the second greatest scorer in the UAE league with 62 goals, after Muhammad Salem and the difference is one goal between them, and with Al Wasl 10 goals in the league, and with Al Jazira 27 goals, he scored in the 12th, 40th and 58th minutes, a hat-trick over Al Shamal in the second leg of the first edition of the Crown Prince’s Cup in Qatar in the semi-finals, to win Al Raheeb (4/1) after winning the first leg (2/0) (He participated and did not score), and he scored the only goal in the final against Al-Arabi in the 68th minute to win the top scorer title with 4 goals in 3 meetings, and he is the owner of the number 9 with Al-Rayyan, a number that his brother Ghazi held with Al-Gharafa Club (formerly Al-Ittihad), and he is also the top scorer in the Prince Cup 1995 with 4 goals in 4 meetings, including a double against Qatar in the second leg of the 17th and 31st quarter-finals, the win (3/1) and the return goal of the 57th, and the win (3/1) also and a goal in the second leg of the semi-final against Al-Wakra in the 28th minute, (2/2), and the elimination after a tie in the first leg (1/1), and he has a total of 18 goals with Al Rayyan in 25 matches in the Emir Cup and 8 goals in 10 matches in the Crown Prince Cup.

Al-Enezi joined the Qatari national team from 1996 to 2003. He has 36 goals in 54 matches, including 12 goals in 21 World Cup qualifiers, 5 in Asian qualifiers, and a goal in the Asian Cup against China in the quarter-final match in the (3/1) defeat, and a goal from 4 meetings in Lebanon 2000, and 4 goals in 9 meetings out of 3 participations in the Gulf Cups, and he was granted Emirati citizenship on 27/1/2004.

In the 1996 Gulf Cup, Al-Enezi was the top scorer of the tournament, with two goals against Oman, a goal against Bahrain, and a goal against Kuwait. He was also the top scorer in the Gulf Clubs Championship in the same year, and ranked fourth in the global ranking of scorers the following year.
