Asian Youth Cup: Iraq draws with Syria and qualifies for the quarter-finals

The Iraqi national team qualified for the quarter-finals after a 1-1 draw with Syria at Lokomotiv Stadium in Tashkent, in the third and final round of the first Group competitions in the AFC U-20 Youth Cup 2023 in Uzbekistan.

The Iraqi national team advanced in the first half through the goal of Haider Abdul Karim (17), before the Syrian national team equalized in the last breath through Zakaria Al-Ramadan (90 + 5).

On Wednesday, the first round of the group witnessed Iraq defeating Indonesia 2-0 and Uzbekistan defeating Syria 2-0, while the second round on Saturday witnessed Uzbekistan beating Iraq 1-0 and Indonesia beating Syria 1-0.

The first two teams from each group qualify for the quarter-finals, whose matches will be held on March 11 and 12.

It is noteworthy that the teams that finish in the first four places in the tournament qualify for the FIFA U-20 Youth World Cup 2023 in Indonesia.
