Iraq begins its journey in the 2023 AFC Youth Cup by defeating Indonesia
Iraq’s national team is on its way to the competition by beating Indonesia 2-0 on Wednesday at Lokomotiv Stadium in the first round of Group A competitions in the AFC U-20 Cup in Uzbekistan.
Haider Abdul Karim (28) and Muhammad Jamil (90 + 6) scored the winning goals for the Iraqi national team.
The Iraqi team completed the match with ten players after defender Charbel Chamoun was sent off in the first minute of stoppage time for the first half.
The second round of group competitions will be held on Saturday, where Syria will meet Indonesia at Lokomotiv Stadium, and Iraq will meet Uzbekistan at Bunyodkor Stadium.
The first two teams from each group qualify for the quarter-finals, whose matches will be held on March 11 and 12.
It is noteworthy that the teams that finish in the first four places in the tournament qualify for the FIFA U-20 Youth World Cup 2023 in Indonesia.
