The Qatar Football Association and Spain’s Felix Sanchez decided not to extend the contract between the two parties

After his contract expired on December 31, the Qatar Football Association and Spain’s Felix Sanchez jointly decided that this would be the best time to start a new phase and thus not renew the contract between the two parties.

The Qatar Football Association expresses its sincere gratitude to coach Felix Sanchez through the words of the President of the Qatar Football Association, His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, to him, saying: “Felix was not only our coach, but also our friend. Qatar is always grateful for the success achieved in Qatari football over the past years. Coach Felix Sanchez will always have a special place with us, and we hope he will always consider Qatar his home.”

Mr. Sanchez expressed his desire to pursue new opportunities and expressed his gratitude for the years he spent in the Qatar Football Association, saying: “The past five and a half years with the Qatar national team have been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I cannot help but thank the Qatar Football Association, His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, the President of the Association, and the country’s leaders for the incredible support and confidence they have placed in us during a time when we have achieved so much together. Qatar, its people and football will always be in my heart. Now is the time to let others take charge of the team and for me to explore new challenges.”

Spain’s Felix Sanchez is considered one of the most successful coaches who supervised Qatari football and led the first national team to crown the Asian Nations Cup in its last edition in Abu Dhabi in 2019.

The Qatar Football Association would like to clarify that the future of the next coach to lead the national team in the next stage will be determined at a later time.
