Basra is decorated to embrace the Gulf “25”
The province of Basra was decorated in preparation for receiving the Gulf 25, where banners welcoming the Gulf brothers in Basra, Iraq and their second country spread in the streets of the city, the slogan and mascot of the tournament, and all the streets in a new and beautiful look, in addition to completing all the facilities required by the tournament.
Basra Governorate will host the Gulf “25” on the sixth to the nineteenth of January in the year 2023, in which eight teams will participate, divided into two groups. The first group included Iraq, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, while the second group included Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar. Yemen, and its matches will begin with a meeting that brings together the organizing country Iraq with Oman, followed by the match between Yemen and Saudi Arabia, and the participating teams in the tournament seek to appear at the level that qualifies them to be a competition for the title, and in the semi-finals the champion of the first group will play with the runner-up of the second group, while the champion of the group will meet the second with the runner-up of the first group, and the matches will take place in the Basra International Stadium in the Sports City and the International Port Stadium, and there are several training stadiums on which the teams will perform training.
Basra is the port of Iraq
Basra is an Iraqi governorate located in the far south of Iraq. It is bordered by Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to the south, and Iran to the east. It shares local borders with the governorates of Dhi Qar and Maysan in the north, and Al-Muthanna Governorate in the west. Basra Governorate is the third largest governorate in Iraq in terms of population (2.9 million people, according to the 2018 census) and the sixth largest governorate in Iraq in terms of area (19,070 km2). It includes oil fields, including the Rumaila field and the Shuaiba fields, and by virtue of its location, as it is located in the fertile Mesopotamian plains, it is considered one of the main centers for the cultivation of rice, barley, wheat, and millet. It is also famous for raising herds of livestock. It is located on a land of varying terrain between a plain, a mountain, plateaus, and a desert. The city of Basra was built by the companion Utbah bin Ghazwan, by order of Caliph Umar bin Al-Khattab.
Gulf championship stadiums “25”
Basra Sports City, which is the largest sports project in Iraq. The city includes a stadium with a capacity of 60,000 spectators, with a wonderful architectural design. A second stadium with a capacity of 10,000 spectators, four training grounds, an Olympic swimming pool with a capacity of 10,000 spectators, in addition to 8 residential buildings for delegations, five-star hotels, a polo field, and a 150-meter-high tower with a youth village, a hospital for sports medicine, tennis courts, commercial complexes, and various events. The area of the sports city is 585 acres, and the International Port Stadium is included among the 25 Gulf stadiums, as it will be officially opened one week before the tournament and a friendly match will be held in it. Inspection delegations have visited the stadiums in Basra, including the International Port Stadium, which has reached its final stages and continues to work on it day and night.
New Mina Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Basra, southern Iraq, with a capacity of 30,000 spectators.
