UAE Olympic meets Uzbekistan in the international friendly tournament

The UAE Olympic team will face Uzbekistan at 6:00 pm tomorrow, Saturday, at Al-Awir Stadium in Shabab Al-Ahly Club Dubai, in the second round of the international friendly tournament for U-23 teams, organized by the Football Association, in cooperation with IAST SPORTS, with the participation of 10 teams.

Tomorrow, the second round will witness the confrontations of Qatar, Japan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, China, Thailand, and Croatia for “youth” against Vietnam, and the tournament will conclude on March 29, with matches of the third and final round.

The current participation in the friendly tournament is part of the preparations of 9 teams, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iraq, Japan, China, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and Thailand, for the 2022 AFC U-23 Cup, scheduled in Uzbekistan, from 1 to 19 June, with the participation of 16 teams.

The first round of the friendly tournament witnessed, last Wednesday, the UAE team’s victory over China 1-0, and Saudi Arabia against Uzbekistan 2-0, and the Japanese Olympic team beat Croatia “youth” team 1-0, in turn, the Qatar Olympic team outperformed its Thailand counterpart 1- 0, while a negative tie decided the Iraq-Vietnam match at Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum Stadium at Shabab Al-Ahly Club.

The draw for the U-23 Asian Cup placed the UAE team in Group D, along with Saudi Arabia, Japan and Tajikistan. The draw resulted in the presence of the “host” Uzbekistan, Iran, Qatar and Turkmenistan in the first group, and the second group included Australia, Jordan, Iraq, and Kuwait The third group includes South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia.

16 teams will participate in the upcoming finals in Uzbekistan, including 4 teams that have previously won the title “Iraq 2013, Japan 2016, Uzbekistan 2018, South Korea 2020, in addition to 9 teams that have reached the semi-finals before, while Tajikistan and Turkmenistan participate for the first time in the finals.
