QFA President chairs AGCFF Executive Committee meeting

DOHA: Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, Chairman of the
Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation (AGCFF), on Friday presided over
a meeting of its Executive Committee at Al Bidda Tower, the home of
football in the country.

The key meeting – which confirmed that the 23rd Gulf Cup will be held
in Qatar – was attended by all the members of the committee except
Bahrain’s Ali Al Buainain.

The meeting was also attended by Jassim Al Rumaihi, Secretary General
of the AGCFF.

Al-Rumaihi said he remained confident that the matter involving
Kuwait’s suspension by FIFA would be resolved soon so that the Arab
nation features at the Gulf Cup to be held in Qatar.

“During the meeting, the logo of the AGCFF was adopted after a few
changes. The new logo will be presented to the presidents of the
football federations at the next General Assembly meeting for
adoption,” Al Rumaihi said on Friday.

Al Rumaihi announced that the Saudi Football Federation requested the
appointment of its Secretary-General Adel Butti to the Executive
Committee instead of Mohamed Al-Nuweiser.

The AGCFF Secretary-General wished popular sports personality Sheikh
Talal Al-Fahd a quick and complete recovery from ill health.

Some of the key points discussed and approved by a draft resolution included:

** Following the meeting, Al Rumaihi announced that the date for the
23rd Gulf Draw has been approved. The draw will take place on
September 25 in Doha. Qatar will host the 23rd Gulf Championship from
22 December to 5 January.

** The meeting agreed to the sponsorship contract signed by the AGCFF
with MP & Silva, which will run for 14 seasons from 2017 to 2030. The
contract period of 14 years includes 7 nation championships and 6 club
tournaments.

** During the meeting on Sunday, Al Rumaihi gave a presentation on the
work and efforts made by the AGCFF since the official announcement on
the formation of the body.

** Al Rumaihi said that on the recommendation of the AGCFF Competitions
Committee; the two-group format will continue in the next edetion of the Gulf
Cup regardless of Kuwiat featuring the tournament or not.

** The office bearers of the AGCFF will convene again in Manama,
Bahrain, on the sidelines of the AFC Executive Committee meetings on
May 8.
