15th Gulf Cup celebrates anniversary with a “Gulf Pride” operetta and a meeting

Today marks the anniversary of the 15th Gulf Cup which was launched on January 16, 2002, hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with the participation of Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and the UAE. The matches were played at King Fahd International Stadium from 16 to 30 January.

 

The opening ceremony included an operetta called “Pride of the Gulf” which included paintings of all Gulf countries, preceded by the speech of the tournament’s head of organizing committee, Prince Sultan bin Fahd. Thereafter, the Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, on behalf of King Fahd bin Abdulaziz, announced the official opening of the session.

The tournament started with the match between the host Saudi Arabia and the champion Kuwait. The Saudi team took the lead in the first half through striker Sami Al-Jaber, before striker Jassim Al-Huwaidi scored a goal for Kuwait in the second half, to end the game with a positive draw.
