Qatar beats Yemen with a big score
Qatar beat Yemen (6-0) in the second round of Group A of the 24th GCC Championship in a match played at Khalifa International Stadium.
Qatari pressure was initially expected to write down the first goal to prevent a repeat of the Iraq confrontation scenario, but this pressure was not ideally invested on the front lines by the trio of Hassan al-Haidus, Akram Afif and AFC Asian Cup top scorer, Moez Ali.
Physical confrontations dominated the game, with multiple injuries and repeated entry of medical staff to the pitch.
After 30 minutes of the first round, the best player in Asia last year, scored the first goal. A minute later Boukhi Bou Alam almost scored the second goal.
Qatari team pressed on the Yemeni team after the first goal, and at the 37th minute Abdul Karim Hassan appeared again and fired a shot which the goalkeeper Salem Awad could not deal with, scoring the second goal for Qatar.
Akram Afif and Al-Haidoos wanted to have a share of the goals, but their ball did not go in, ending the first half with a double for Qatar.
In the second half, Qatar seemed calm. After a usual Qatari domination of the midfield, Moez Ali scored the third goal.
Yemeni coach Sami Al-Na’ash made his first changes and Al-Haidoos tried from all directions to score, while Salem Awad alone blocked all his shots from going in.
Qatar got a penalty at the 69th minute, and the Kuwaiti referee made sure of its validity through the technique of “VAR” which was scored by Abdulkarim Hassan.
Sanchez made his second change 20 minutes before the end with the departure of the leader Hassan Al-Haidus and the entry of young Abdullah Al-Burn.
The crowd of 26,392 fans continued to give their support. Al-Ahraq scored the fifth goal with a powerful shot from outside the area five minutes before the end.
The match was breathing its last breath, and the nominee for the AFC Player of the Year 2019 Akram Afif scored the sixth goal for the host team, ending the match.
