Kuwait begins the Gulf 24 with a win against Saudi Arabia
Kuwait won (3-1) against Saudi Arabia in their fourth match in the 24th Gulf Cup at Abdullah Al-Khalifa Stadium.
The match started with the whistle of UAE’s Mohammed Abdullah. The national coach Thamer Anad played with Youssef Nasser and the veteran in the front, while French Hervé Renard depended on Al-Nasr striker Firas Al-Braikan and his successor Al-Bishi and Yahya Al-Shehri.
The tenth minute revealed the first attack by the incursion of Al-Braikan between the Kuwaiti defenses which was easy for Yahya al-Shehri, while Kuwait arrived for the first time to the areas of Fawaz al-Qarni after a quarter of an hour.
At the middle of the first half, the Kuwaiti fans continued to shout as the ball recedes in the center of the stadium.
In the 42nd minute, Captain Bader Al Mutawa got a free-kick. Yousef Nasser played it and then the ball went to Ahmed Al-Dhafiri, who shot it and scored the first goal. Sami Al Sanea, with a pass from Al Mutawa, surprised Saudi Arabia with a wonderful second goal to end the first half with a (2-0) lead.
At the start of the second half, Frenchman Hervé Renard made his first substitution by entering Al Hilal midfielder Mohamed Kanno.
Saudi Arabia continued to dominate but without scoring until the 75th minute when Yousef Nasser almost scored the third goal of the game with a shot that passed safely for the goalkeeper.
Thamer Enad made the third substitution by entering Faisal Ajab in the place of Al-Buraiki.
Mubarak Al-Fettini eliminated all the remaining hopes of the Saudi Green when he scored the third goal with a strong ball at the ninety minute.
The voices of 5,777 fans were loud in the six added minutes that witnessed the only goal of the Green scored by Firas Al-Braikan.
