Wahaibi: There are attempts to reunite
President of Oman Football Association Sheikh Salem bin Saeed Al-Wohaibi said that the absence of Saudi Arabia, UAE and Bahrain will have a significant impact, stressing at the same time that there are attempts to resolve the issues so that all teams can participate in the 24th Gulf Championship.
This came in a statement on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the Arab Gulf Cup Football Association held in the Qatari capital Doha.
Al-Wohaibi confirmed that the General Assembly meeting went well, expressing regret that the other unions were not present, but the presence of the participating five teams completes the quorum – he said.
Al-Wohaibi added that the meeting dealt with the current year’s budget and approved some technical details.
On the impact of the absence of a number of Gulf teams, the President of the Omani Federation said that it would be felt greatly (whether technical, public or media) explaining that the Gulf Cup was found with the membership of all teams of the Arab Gulf region, and as members of the General Assembly they are always optimistic, and there are attempts to reunite the Gulf in the championship.
On the date of the tournament, Al-Wehaibi explained that the deadline has not been approved yet, as it is linked to several details concerning the competitions committees in each federation.
Salim Al-Wahaibi ended his talk about the ambitions of the Omani team in the Gulf of Qatar 24 saying: “The Omani national team will be on the verge of the World Cup qualifiers, which is a very important battle for us, and the Gulf Cup will come almost two rounds after the start of the qualifiers, so we expect that the teams will be ready. We have a young generation and we trust our players to repeat the achievement and win the Gulf title.”
