Gulf clubs complete the contract for the quarter-finalists of the AFC Champions League
Former champions succeeded in progressing to the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League 2023-2024, following the completion of the contracts of the eight qualifying clubs after the conclusion of the round of 16 matches.
In the West, Al Ain, the winner of the AFC Champions League in the first edition, had to do everything possible to achieve a victory over its guest Nasaf of Uzbekistan 2-1 after a goalless draw in the first leg.
Sufyan Rahimi’s goal in the second minute of stoppage time ensured Al Ain qualified to face Al Nassr in the next round, with the Saudi side recording a 3-0 aggregate win over Al Fayhaa.
After winning the first leg 1-0, Otavio and Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice on Wednesday, as Al-Nassr maintained its hopes of winning the AFC Champions League title for the first time.
Al-Hilal Saudi Arabia and its compatriot Al-Ittihad completed the quarter-finals, after confirming their positions through the two matches held on Thursday.
Two-time champions Al-Ittihad came from behind to secure a 2-1 win in the second leg against Uzbekistan’s Navbahor, with Toma Tamatadze’s errant kick from an own corner kick handing victory to the Saudis in the 87th minute.
For its part, Al Hilal, which seeks to be Asian champion for the fifth time, had to come back from behind and achieve a victory over Iranian Sepahan with a score of 3-1, so that the Saudi Professional League team qualified 6-2 on aggregate.
The quarter-final first leg matches will be held from March 4 to 6.
