The Qatari national team is champion of the 2023 Asian Cup for the second time
The Qatar national team was crowned champion of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023, after defeating Jordan 3-1 in the final match held on Saturday at Lusail Stadium.
Akram Afif scored the Qatari team’s goals in the 22nd, 73rd and 90+5 minutes from three penalty kicks, while Anas Al-Naimat (67) scored Jordan’s goal.
Thus, the Qatari team succeeded in retaining the championship title for the second edition in a row, after winning the championship title for the first time in its history in the last edition in 2019 in the Emirates.
In the group stage, the Jordanian national team ranked third in Group Five with 4 points from three matches, two points behind leaders Bahrain, and one point behind the Republic of Korea, compared to one point for Malaysia.
The team succeeded in achieving victory in the first round over Malaysia 4-0, and tied with the Republic of Korea 2-2, before losing to Bahrain in the third round 0-1. In the round of 16, he managed to win over Iraq 3-2, then in the quarter-finals he defeated Tajikistan 1-0, and in the semi-finals he defeated the Republic of Korea 2-0.
On the other hand, the Qatari team topped the standings of Group one with 9 full points from three matches, compared to 4 points for Tajikistan, 2 points for China, and a point for Lebanon.
The team began the competition by defeating Lebanon 3-0, then defeated Tajikistan 1-0 and China 1-0, and won in the round of 16 over Palestine 2-1, then won in the quarter-finals over Uzbekistan by penalty shootout 3-2 after a draw. 1-1, and in the semi-final they won against Iran 3-2.
