Bahrain’s loss and Japan’s qualification for the 2023 Asian Cup quarter-finals
The Japanese national team qualified for the quarter-finals after defeating Bahrain 3-1 on Wednesday at Al Thumama Stadium in Doha, in the round of 16 in the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023.
Ritsu Doan (31), Takefusa Kubo (49) and Iase Ueda (72) scored Japan’s goals, while Japanese Iase Ueda (64 by mistake against his team) scored Bahrain’s goal.
The Japanese national team will meet in the quarter-finals on Saturday, with the winner of the Iran-Syria match, which will also be held on Wednesday.
In the first round, the Bahrain national team topped the Group Five standings with 6 points from three matches, compared to 5 points for the Republic of Korea, 4 for Jordan, and a point for Malaysia.
The team began the competition by losing to the Republic of Korea 1-3, then beat Malaysia 1-0, before defeating Jordan 1-0 in the third round.
On the other hand, the Japanese team ranked second in Group Four with 6 points from three matches, three points behind leaders Iraq, compared to 3 points for Indonesia, and nothing for Vietnam.
The team succeeded in achieving victory in the first round over Vietnam 4-2, then lost to Iraq 1-2, before winning in the third round over Indonesia 3-1.
