Club World Cup: Al-Ittihad Saudi Arabia loses the quarter-finals to Al-Ahly of Egypt

Al-Ittihad Club of Saudi Arabia lost to Al-Ahly of Egypt 1-3 at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, in the quarter-finals of the 2023 Club World Cup.

Ali Maaloul (21 from a penalty kick), Hussein Al-Shahat (59) and Imam Ashour (62) scored Al-Ahly’s goals, while Karim Benzema (90+2) scored Al-Ittihad’s goal.

Al-Ahly completed the match with ten players, after substitute striker Anthony Modeste was sent off in the 90th minute.

Al-Ahly qualified to meet in the semi-finals with Brazilian Fluminense, where the match will be held on Monday.

The second match in the quarter-finals on Friday also witnessed Urawa Red Diamonds defeating Club Leon of Mexico 1-0 at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium, and Urawa Reds qualified to meet in the semi-finals with Manchester City of England on Tuesday.

Al-Ittihad, which is participating in the tournament as a representative of the host country, succeeded in the first round by defeating New Zealand’s Auckland City 3-0 on Tuesday.
