Two wins for Saudi Arabia and the UAE in the 10th West Asian Junior Championship

The Saudi and UAE national teams were able to defeat their Syrian-Jordanian counterparts, respectively, at the start of the second group matches of the 10th West Asian Federation Junior Championship, hosted by the Sultanate of Oman at the Al Saada Complex Stadium in Salalah.

The Saudi national team’s victory came with two unanswered goals, signed by Abdul Rahman Sufyani, and Al-Walid Al-Awfi from a penalty kick, while the UAE national team beat the Jordanian team with a clean goal scored by Hazza bin Mahdi in the 42nd minute, in the two matches that were held today, Tuesday, December 2023.

As a result, the Saudi team topped the standings of the second group with a score of 8 points, ahead of the Emirates in the number of goals scored, while the Jordanian and Syrian teams had no score.

In addition, the teams of the first group will reappear tomorrow, Wednesday, December 13, 2023, through two confrontations between Lebanon and Iraq at five o’clock in the evening, Oman time, and between Yemen and Oman at eight o’clock in the evening.

The first round witnessed the Omani team winning 1-0 over its Lebanese counterpart, while the Yemeni team beat the Iraqi team 2-1.

The tournament will be held for the age group born in 2008. The group stage will be held in one stage, and the first and second in each group will qualify for the semi-finals, and then the winners of this round will advance to the final match.

The Jordanian national team holds the title of the ninth edition of the tournament, which was hosted by them in the city of Aqaba in the summer of 2022, by winning the final match over its Lebanese counterpart, who finished as runner-up with a score of 1-0.

On the other hand, the eighth edition of the tournament was held in Saudi Arabia at the end of 2021, and at that time witnessed the Yemeni team winning the title at the expense of the host.
