A positive start for Oman and Yemen in the West Asian Junior Championship

The teams of Oman and Yemen made a positive start in the 10th West Asian Federation Junior Championship, which began on Monday, December 11, 2023, at the Al Saada Complex Stadium in Salalah, Sultanate of Oman.

The Omani team was able to win 1-0 over its Lebanese counterpart, while the Yemeni team beat the Iraqi team 2-1 in the two matches that were held for the first round of the first group competitions.

On the other hand, the second group dialogues will begin next Tuesday, with a meeting between Saudi Arabia and Syria at five o’clock in the evening, Oman time, and between the Emirates and Jordan at eight o’clock in the evening.

According to the system, the tournament is held for the age group born in 2008, with the group stage being held in one stage, and the first and second in each group qualify for the semi-finals, and then the winners from this round move to the final match.

The Jordanian national team holds the title of the ninth edition of the tournament, which was hosted by them in the city of Aqaba in the summer of 2022, by winning the final match over its Lebanese counterpart, who finished as runner-up with a score of 1-0.

On the other hand, the eighth edition of the tournament was held in Saudi Arabia at the end of 2021, and at that time witnessed the Yemeni team winning the title at the expense of the host.
