Results of the fifth round of the AFC Champions League
Al-Fayhaa Saudi Club defeated its guest Ahal Al-Turkmani 3-1 at Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium in Riyadh, in the fifth round of Group 1 competitors in the AFC Champions League 2023-2024.
Anthony Nwakami (19 from a penalty kick), Junior Fashion Scala (45+6) and Sultan Mandesh (74) scored Al-Fayhaa’s goals, while Ilman Nagayev (36 from a penalty kick) scored for Ahal’s.
The second match in the same group witnessed the Uzbekistan Pakhtakor victory over Al Ain of the United Arab Emirates 3-1 at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain.
Al Ain maintained its lead in the group standings with 12 points from five matches, compared to 7 points for Pakhtakor, 6 for Al Fayhaa, and 4 for Al Ahal, as Al Ain secured the top spot in the group and qualified for the round of 16.
Al-Hilal Saudi Club secured qualification to the second round after its victory over Navbahor of Uzbekistan 2-0 at the Central Stadium in Namangan, in the fifth round of Group 4 competitions. Malcolm Oliveira (68) and Salem Al-Dosari (85) scored the winning goals for Al-Hilal FC.
The Iranian Sepahan club defeated its Iraqi guest, Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, 1-0 at Azadi Stadium in Tehran, in the fifth round of the third group competitions, and Farshad Ahmad Zadeh scored the valuable winning goal for Sepahan in the fourth minute of the match.
Sepahan completed the match with nine players after the expulsion of Mohammad Hossein Nejad (43) and Hadi Mohammadi (90).
The second match in the same group also witnessed the Saudi Al-Ittihad victory over AGMK of Uzbekistan 2-1 at the OKMK Sports Complex Stadium in Al-Malik.
Al-Ittihad maintained its lead in the group standings with 12 points from five matches, compared to 10 points for Sepahan and 7 for Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, while AGMK’s balance remained devoid of points.
Al-Nasr Saudi Club also secured qualification to the second round after drawing with its Iranian guest, Persepolis, 0-0, at Al-Awal Park Stadium in Riyadh, in the fifth round of Group Five competitions. The two teams exchanged attacking attempts during the match, without either of them succeeding in reaching the goal.
The second match in the same group witnessed Al-Duhail of Qatar defeating its guest, Istiklal of Tajikistan, 2-0 at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha.
Al-Nasr maintained its lead in the group standings with 13 points from five matches, compared to 8 points for Persepolis, 4 points for Al-Duhail, and 2 points for Esteghlal, as Al-Nasr secured the top spot in the group and qualified for the round of 16.
The Uzbek club Nasaf succeeded in overturning its deficit to win against its guest, Al-Faisaly of Jordan, 3-1 at the Central Stadium in Qarshi, in the fifth round of the second group competitions. Al-Faisaly took the lead before the end of the first half through Rizq Bani Hani’s goal (45 + 6), before responding. Nasaf with three goals by Matthews Lima (47), Zafarmurad Abdurakhmetov (50) and Marko Stanojevic (68).
The second match in the same group witnessed the victory of Al-Sadd of Qatar outside its stadium over Al-Sharjah of the Emirates 2-0 at Sharjah City Stadium.
Nasaf topped the group standings with 10 points from five matches, compared to 8 points for Sharjah, 7 for Al Sadd, and 3 for Al Faisaly.
