Ghulam Khamis .. the story of the legend of Omani football

The most prominent immortal names in the Omani memory, and one of the most beautiful legends that woven with its feet a history of Omani football at the external level, as it led to the first victory in the history of its participation in the Gulf Cup in the tournament hosted by Saudi Arabia 1988, and that was according to the win against the Qatari team 1/2, when he scored the second goal, his teammate Younis Aman scored the first goal, his uniqueness with wondrous features in keeping the ball, passing accuracy and shooting skill, until he was named Maradona Oman.

He is the star of the Al-Ahly Club and the Oman national team, Ghulam Khamis, who was born in 1959. He started his football career with the ranks of the Omani Al-Ahly Club, and progressed through his life stages until he was promoted to the first team in 1976. He achieved many achievements and titles, as he won the Cup of His Majesty the Sultan 4 times, and the League Championship 3 times.

Ghulam Khamis joined the national team in 1978, participated in 5 editions of the Gulf Cup, won the title of best player in Gulf 7, and scored 3 goals for Omani Reds in Gulf 7 (UAE), 8 (Saudi Arabia), and 9 (Qatar).

Ghulam Khamis is the first Omani player to receive a professional offer. After his remarkable brilliance with the national team, Al-Arabi Al-Qatari made an offer to join the player in 1988, but his Al-Ahly club refused to give it up as he is one of the most important players in Al-Ahly team.

His football career ended as a result of an injury that kept him out of action for a long time until he decided to retire, and he died during a treatment trip in Thailand on November 17, 2008 after a long struggle with illness.
