AFC U-17 Championship: A win for Saudi Arabia and a loss for Qatar

The Saudi national team is on its way to the competition by beating Victoria on Friday, 2-0, at Chonburi City Stadium, in the first round of the third Group competitions in the AFC U-17 Junior Championship 2023 in Thailand.

Nawaf Al-Bishri (56) and Nawaf Al-Jadaani (86) scored the winning goals for the Saudi national team.

Saudi Arabia topped the group standings with 3 points from one match, compared to a point for Tajikistan and China, while Australia’s balance remained devoid of points.

While the Qatar national team lost 1-6 to South Korea on Friday at Pathum Thani Stadium, in the first round of the second Group competitions in the AFC U-17 Junior Championship 2023 in Thailand.

Kim Myung-joon (12 penalties, 46 and 60), Paek In-woo (20 and 55) and Yoon Do-young (31) scored South Korea’s goals, while Nasser Babiker (15) scored Qatar’s goal.

The second round of the first and second group competitions will be held on Monday, where Saudi Arabia will meet with Tajikistan, and China with Australia, in the first group, and in the second, Qatar will play with Iran, and Afghanistan will play with South Korea.

The first two teams from each group qualify for the quarter-finals, whose matches will be held on June 25 and 26, with the final match taking place on July 2.

It is noteworthy that the teams that ranked in the first four places in the tournament will receive the qualification cards in order to represent the Asian continent in the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2023.
