Qatar begins its journey in the Asian Youth Cup by losing to Iran

The Qatar national team lost to Iran 0-1 on Wednesday at Istiqlal Stadium in Fergana, in the first round of the second Group competitions in the AFC U-20 Youth Cup 2023 in Uzbekistan.

Mohammad Hazbawi scored the winning goal for Iran via a penalty kick in the 65th minute of the match.

Iran and Vietnam topped the group standings with 3 points from one match each, while Qatar and Australia remained devoid of points.

The second round of group competitions will be held on Saturday, when Iran will meet Australia, and Vietnam will meet Qatar, at Al Istiqlal Stadium.

The first two teams from each group qualify for the quarter-finals, whose matches will be held on March 11 and 12.

It is noteworthy that the teams that finish in the first four places in the tournament qualify for the FIFA U-20 Youth World Cup 2023 in Indonesia.
