Asian Champions: Al-Duhail of Qatar beats the Saudi Al Shabab and qualifies for the semi-finals

Al-Duhail Club of Qatar qualified for the semi-finals after defeating Saudi Al-Shabab 2-1 on Thursday at Al-Thumama Stadium in Doha, in the quarter-finals of the 2022 AFC Champions League for the West region.

Michael Olunga scored the winning goals for Al Duhail in the 77th and 85th minutes, while Saeed Al-Rubaie (90 + 3) scored Al-Shabab’s goal.

In the group stage, Al-Duhail topped the fourth group standings with 15 points from six matches, compared to 7 points each for Saudi Al Taawon and Iranian Sepahan and 6 for Uzbek Pakhtakor, then won in the round of 16 over compatriot Al Rayyan by a penalty shootout 6-7 after the two teams tied 0-0 in the match’s regular time and 1-1 in extra time.

On the other hand, Al-Shabab topped the standings of the second Group with 16 points from six matches, compared to 7 points for Indian Mumbai City and Iraqi Air Force and 4 for Al-Jazira of the United Arab Emirates, and won in the round of 16 against Nasaf of Uzbekistan 2-0.
