The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy unveils countdown clock for Qatar 2022 World Cup
Yesterday, Sunday, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, responsible for organizing the Qatar 2022 World Cup, revealed the countdown clock for the World Cup, in cooperation with the International Football Association (FIFA), a year before the start of the tournament, during a half-hour party on the Corniche of the Qatari capital, Doha.
The French Marcel Desaillier, who won the 1998 World Cup with his country, the former Qatari football star Adel Khamis, the Tunisian Sami Trabelsi, the Qatari coach of Al Sailiya and the former player of the Tunisian team in the France 1998 World Cup, participated in the event. Desaillier presented the original version of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, and kicked the ball to announce the start of the countdown, and the design of the clock was inspired by the 2022 World Cup logo.
The event witnessed the presence of a group of officials and senior guests, in addition to the President of the International Football Association, Gianni Infantino, and athletes from several countries, such as Cameroonian Samuel Eto’o, ambassador of the Supreme Committee, English David Beckham, and former Brazilian defender Cafu, ambassador of the Supreme Committee.
The ceremony included a light show using drones, in which all segments of Qatari society, including children, elderly and women, participated, confirming Qatar’s readiness to kick start and open its doors to receive millions of visitors and fans from all over the world.
A year before the start of the 2022 World Cup, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy announced the completion of construction in the eight stadiums hosting the first edition of the World Cup in the Arab world and the Middle East, after putting the final touches on Lusail Stadium, the largest stadium in the World Cup, with a fan capacity of 80,000 fans, which will witness the final match in the upcoming world championship.
Qatar has so far opened seven stadiums specifically to host the World Cup competitions, while Khalifa International Stadium has witnessed comprehensive development work.
A year from now, the start of the first matches of the Qatar World Cup 2022 will be given at Al Bayt Stadium in the city of Al Khor in the north of the State of Qatar.
It is noteworthy that Al Bayt Stadium will witness the first match on its floor at the end of this month between Qatar and Bahrain on the first day of the Arab Cup competitions.
