The Yemeni team is the first to qualify for the semi-finals of the tenth junior championship

The Yemeni national team became the first to qualify for the semi-finals of the 10th West Asian Federation Junior Championship, hosted by the Omani Federation at the Al Saada Complex Stadium in Salalah.

The Yemeni team raised its score to 6 points, alone at the top of the first group, after defeating its Omani counterpart with an unanswered goal scored by Abdul Rahman Abdul Nabi in the 37th minute in the match that took place for the second round.

In contrast, the Omani team’s score settled at 3 points, which is the same as the Iraqi team’s score, which in turn, for the account of the same group, surpassed the Lebanese team with three clean goals scored by Ahmed Yasser and Zain Al-Abidin Jassim (two goals).

Yemen previously defeated Iraq 2-1 in the first round, which also witnessed Oman’s victory over Lebanon 1-0.

Today, the second group competitions will be completed with a confrontation between Jordan and Saudi Arabia at five o’clock in the evening, Oman time, and another between Syria and the Emirates at eight o’clock in the evening.

The Saudi national team previously won the first round over Syria with two goals to none, while the UAE national team beat its Jordanian counterpart with a clean goal.

The Saudi national team leads the standings of Group Two with 3 points, ahead of the UAE in the number of goals scored, while Jordan and Syria are without a score.

The tournament is held for the age group born in 2008, with the group stage being held in one stage, and the first and second in each group qualify for the semi-finals, then the two winners from this round move on to the final match.

On the other hand, the eighth edition of the tournament was held in Saudi Arabia at the end of 2021, and at that time witnessed the Yemeni team winning the title at the expense of the host.
