Announcing the date of the 2023 Asian Cup in Qatar
The Asian Football Confederation and the Local Organizing Committee for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup in Qatar have confirmed the date for the tournament to be held from January 12 to February 10, 2024.
The tournament will witness the participation of 24 national teams competing for the title of the Asian football.
In order to enhance interaction with the fans, the opening match in the 18th edition of the tournament will be held on Friday, while the final match will be held during the weekend.
The Asian Football Confederation and the Local Organizing Committee also confirmed that the tournament will be held in eight stadiums, including six stadiums that co-hosted the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which are Al Janoub Stadium, Al Bayt Stadium, Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium, Al Thumama Stadium, Education City Stadium, and Khalifa Stadium International, to be joined by Jassim bin Hamad Stadium and Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium.
His Excellency Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, President of the Asian Football Confederation, said: We are confident that the Local Organizing Committee and the Qatar Football Association will organize a real festival that is unprecedented in the history of Asian football.
He added: We have already followed the success of the Qatar Football Association and the Qatari authorities in organizing the best version in the history of the World Cup, and we fully believe that they will reaffirm their organizational capabilities, through the wonderful infrastructure, and the distinguished spirit of hospitality, when hosting our teams, players and fans.
He explained: We commend them for their commitment and dedication, and we are pleased to confirm the tournament dates and stadiums, which is an important achievement within our ambitions to provide the best platform for our teams and players to shine.
The 2023 AFC Asian Cup will be held in Qatar over a period of 30 days, an increase of two days from the previous edition, which lasted for 28 days in 2019 in the UAE, in order to enhance the experience enjoyed by enthusiastic football fans in the continent of Asia, and enhance the tournament’s prestige and commercial value.
And with the escalation of enthusiasm for the launch of the tournament in the coming months, the official date for the tournament draw has been confirmed, and it will be held at the Opera House Theater in Katara, in the Qatari capital, Doha, on May 11 next, at 2:00 pm local time, and the announcement of the championship matches schedule will take place shortly after the draw.
