The golden mercury.. The career of the star of the Saudi football Mohammed Nour

One of the icons and legends of the Al Itihad Jeddah throughout the ages, as he comes among those who wrote the history of the Al Itihad, the historic midfielder for the club, and one of the most prominent players of the Saudi national team. He was called many titles, including the golden mercury, and the light of the Al Itihad club.

He is the goalscoring midfielder, Muhammad bin Muhammad Nour Al-Hawsawi, who was born in Makkah in February 1978, and joined the Al-Ittihad youth team in 1993 under the leadership of coach Mahfouz Hafez, who believed in his talent and potential, and was promoted to the first team after only one season, under the leadership of coach Dmitry, who was fascinated by him and predicted a distinguished future for him.

Nour appeared at an impressive level with Al-Ittihad in the first season, becoming the most important player in Al Itihad club, with whom he achieved many achievements, most notably the Saudi League title 7 times, the Crown Prince Cup 3 times, the Saudi Federation Cup twice, the Arab Champions League title once, and the Cup Gulf Clubs once, and the Egyptian-Saudi Super Cup twice.

He also won with Al Itihad club the AFC Champions League title for two consecutive seasons 2004 and 2005, during which he was chosen as the best player during his final match, and the Asian Cup Winners’ Cup once, to make a history that will not be erased from the memory of every fan of Al Itihad.

Nour played for Al-Ittihad until 2013, and due to some administrative circumstances, he moved to Al-Nasr Club for one season, during which he won the Saudi League title and the Crown Prince Cup, to return again in June 2014 to Al-Ittihad.

Nour joined the first Saudi national team in 1999, under the leadership of coach Milan Machala, in the Confederations Cup in Mexico, and he played 20 minutes in his first international match against Brazil in the semi-finals, and the match ended 8/2 in favor of Brazil while he was only 21 years old.

Nour participated with the national team in the 2000 Asian Cup in Lebanon, and the Gulf Cup hosted by Riyadh, and was crowned with the Saudi national team. Then he participated in the 2002 World Cup in Korea and Japan, and performed admirably.

His second participation in the World Cup came in Germany 2006, and no one will forget the distinguished level he showed in the Spain match, despite the team’s early exit.

Nour played many championships with the Saudi national team, during the period from 1999 to 2006, during which he scored 11 goals, and won 3 major Asian championships.

Nour was suspended for 4 years by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on the background of a positive doping sample, after a previous decision to suspend him for four months, and following the CAS decision, Nour announced his retirement, to be the end of the golden mercury, in contrast to the value of his career.
