Adel Al-Salmi.. The march of Yemen’s second historical scorer

One of the best strikers in the history of Yemeni football, a natural scorer, possessed a superior ability to shake opponents’ defenses, so he was a terrifying net who was born in the penalty area. He was called the Nistelroy of Yemen.

He is the star scorer, Adel Ali Al-Salmi, who was born on July 6, 1979 in Saada Governorate. He played in the Sunni groups of Al-Ahly Sana’a since 1995, and he was promoted to the first team with which he starred under the leadership of Iraqi coach Saadi Younes, and he promoted the team to the runner-up position in the league behind the Sana’a unit, to follow that season. Many seasons during which Al-Ahly dominated the league title, and since the first season, it has achieved the title of top scorer with 20 goals.

In the following season, he was the second top scorer with 20 goals, behind Fathi Al-Jaber, the Al-Tilal striker, who scored 22 goals. In the 1999 season, Al-Salmi returned and snatched the top scorer title with 17 goals. He also won the title in the 2001/2002 season with 18 goals, then came second in the 2004 season, 2005 with 13 goals, and came third in the 2005/2006 season with 16 goals.

Al-Salmi played with Al-Ahly until 2008, during which he was loaned during the 2004/2005 season to Omani club Dhofar.

In the 2008/2009 season, he played for Al-Rasheed Club, and in the following season 2009/2010 he joined the Yemeni Al-Wahda Club, before moving in the following season to the Yemeni Al-Tilal Club, before returning to Al-Ahly Sana’a.

Al-Salmi joined the Yemeni national team and played for it from 2000 to 2004, during which he played 23 matches and scored 15 goals, to come second behind the historic scorer Ali Al-Nono, who scored 29 goals in 50 matches during the period 2000 to 2010.

Al-Salmi participated in the 2002 World Cup qualifiers in Korea and Japan, in the group that also included the Sultanate of Brunei, India, and the UAE, and in the opening match against the Sultanate of Brunei, Al-Salmi scored 3 goals (a hat-trick) in the goal of the owner of the land and the audience, in the match that ended with Yemen winning five.
He also contributed greatly to Yemen’s draw against India, which advanced on 3 occasions, but Al-Salmi always returned Yemen to a tie, as he scored 3 goals, and he also scored against the Emirates in Al-Ain, a goal in the match that ended 2/3 for the Emirates, and the Yemeni team only needed a draw, which is what was not achieved, so that his star would later fall suddenly and Yemeni football would lose an incomparable scorer.
