The AFC announces that Saudi Arabia will host the AFC Champions League groups for the Western Region

Yesterday, Thursday, the Asian Football Confederation announced that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will host the group stage matches of the 2022 AFC Champions League for the Western Region.

It is scheduled that 4 Saudi cities will host 5 group matches in the Champions League, during the period from April 7-27, with the confirmed participation of 3 clubs from the Kingdom’s representatives (Al Hilal – Al Shabab – Al Faisaly) while Al Taawun will play the supplement match.

Al-Hilal, the defending champion, will start the competition through the first group matches that will be held in Riyadh. The group also includes Al-Istiklal of Tajikistan and Al-Rayyan of Qatar, and the winner of the preliminary round match between Sharjah of the United Arab Emirates and Al-Zawraa of Iraq.

Riyadh will also host Group B matches, which includes Al Shabab Club, Al Jazira, and the Iraqi Air Force, as well as Mumbai, which is participating for the first time in the tournament.

Jeddah will host Group C matches, which includes Foolad Khuzestan of Iran, Shabab Al Ahly Dubai of the United Arab Emirates, Al Gharafa of Qatar and Ahal Al Turkmani.

The fourth group matches will be held in Buraidah, which includes Iran’s Sepahan, Qatar’s Al Duhail and Uzbekistan’s Pakhtakor, in addition to the winner of the preliminary round match between Al-Taawon and the Syrian Army.

Dammam will host Group E matches, where the group includes Al-Faisaly, Al-Sadd of Qatar and Al-Wehdat of Jordan, and the winner of the preliminary round match between Baniyas of the Emirates and Nasaf of Uzbekistan.
