MP & Silva appointed as global advisor to the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation
DOHA: In a long-term deal, the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation
(AGCFF) on Monday signed a 14-year deal with MP & Silva, the company
that distributes TV and media rights for sports federations, leagues,
clubs and rights holders.
According to details, the 14-season contract will run from 2017-2030
and MP & Silva will be responsible for advising AGCFF on media and
commercial rights deals for all football competitions.
The AGCFF was established in 2016 and is headquartered in Doha.
Led by President Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, and
coordinated by General Secretary, Jassim Al Rumahi, the federation
owns the region’s two most prestigious club and country competitions.
Member countries include Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi
Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
The newly-formed AGCFF will hold Gulf Nations Cup tournaments in every
odd year, starting in 2017, and a club competition every even year,
starting in 2020.
Already scheduled are the 23rd edition of the Gulf Nations Cup, which
will be held in Qatar in 2017, followed by the 24th edition taking
place in United Arab Emirates in 2019.
Speaking on the sideline of the signing ceremony, AGCFF President
Sheikh Hamad said: “For all of us who love football, we know the
importance of the Gulf Nations Cup and its significance in our hearts
for more than 40 years now. For this, together with our brothers from
the GCC Football Associations, we established last year the AGCFF as
the new home of GCC Football.”
He added: “With the mission to continuously improve and promote the
game of football within the founding Member Associations and in light
of the unifying and collective educational, cultural and humanitarian
values that we all share, the AGCFF will manage the Gulf Nations Cup
and a Combined Club Competitions championship with the purpose to add
sports value to the region and achieve greater development in
football.”
Speaking about the appointment as global advisor, MP & Silva’s CEO,
Jochen Losch, said: “I’m honoured and delighted that MP & Silva has
been selected to act as the long-term global advisor to the Arab Gulf
Cup Football Federation. It is an honour to co-develop the Gulf Cup
with the AGCFF. This is an event with a strong history, and one that
excites each country’s passionate fans.”
