Marwijk: We want to win despite Qatar’s preference

United Arab Emirates coach Van Marwijk said in a press conference before his team’s confrontation with Qatar that Qatar is the best Asian team.
He said: “Qatar has players who have been playing for years with each other, and this was proven in their performance against Yemen.”
Marwijk added: “Our project started months ago with new players, but there is a positive development despite the short period of preparation, and I know that winning will take us to the next round despite the preference of Qatar.”
“We know what we have to do and it is only one – to win this game,” he said.
He added: “Preparation for this game began yesterday after the match against Iraq, and we cannot train because there is not enough time, so we prepared for this confrontation even before the start of the tournament.”
The UAE coach said: “Our performance in the first half against Iraq was bad, but the performance improved in the second half; and if we play the same pattern against Qatar, we will win.”
As for the development of the players’ performance, he said: “Abdullah Ramadan played well against Iraq despite being young. Mohammed Al Attas began to regain his fitness and is ready for the game.”
He added: “Mental preparation is very important. It is good to have the fans’ support, but we are used to the absence of the masses in this session, and it is shameful that the masses are absent. We hope to have public support against Qatar.”
“We are here to play good and get good results. We have to win all the matches, but this is the beginning of a young team,” he said.
When asked about his future, he said: “I am here to talk about Qatar and not to talk about my future,” he said.
