Iraq loses to Jordan in the 2023 Asian Cup final

The Iraqi national team lost the opportunity to qualify for the quarter-finals against Jordan after Al-Nashama’s exciting marathon victory over Iraq 3-2 on Monday at Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, in the round of 16 in the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023.

Yazan Al-Naimat (45 + 1), Yazan Al-Arab (90 + 5), and Nizar Al-Rashdan (90 + 7) scored the goals for Jordan, while Saad Natiq (68) and Ayman Hussein (76) scored the goals for Iraq.

The Iraqi national team completed the match with ten players after striker Ayman Hussein was sent off in the 77th minute as a result of receiving a second warning.

In the quarter-finals, the Jordanian national team will meet with the Tajikistan national team, which defeated the UAE on Sunday by a 5-3 penalty shootout after the two teams tied 1-1.

In the first round, the Iraqi national team topped the fourth group standings with 9 full points from three matches, compared to 6 points for Japan, 3 for Indonesia, and none for Vietnam.

The team began the competition by defeating Indonesia 3-1, then defeated Japan 2-1, and Vietnam 3-2.

On the other hand, the Jordanian team ranked third in Group Five with 4 points from three matches, two points behind leaders Bahrain, and one point behind the Republic of Korea, compared to one point for Malaysia.

The team succeeded in achieving victory in the first round over Malaysia 4-0, then tied with the Republic of Korea 2-2, before losing to Bahrain in the third round 0-1.
