Oman draws with Kyrgyzstan and bids farewell to the competition

The Oman national team exited the competition in the first round after drawing with Kyrgyzstan 1-1 on Thursday at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha, in the third and final round of the sixth group competitions in the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023.

The Omani team took the lead in the first half through a goal by Mohsen Al-Ghassani (8), before Kyrgyzstan equalized through Joel Kojo (80).

Saudi Arabia topped the group standings with 7 points from three matches, compared to 5 points for Thailand, 2 points for Oman, and a point for Kyrgyzstan, as Saudi Arabia and Thailand qualified for the round of 16.

On Thursday, January 16, the first round of group competitions witnessed Saudi Arabia defeating Oman 2-1 at Khalifa International Stadium, and Thailand defeating Kyrgyzstan 2-0 at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium.

On the other hand, the second round on Sunday, January 21, witnessed Saudi Arabia defeating Kyrgyzstan 2-0 at Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium, and Oman tied with Thailand 0-0 at Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium.

The top two teams in each group qualify for the round of 16, along with the four best third-placed teams.
