Iraq opens the Asian Cup by defeating Indonesia by three

The Iraqi national team began the Asian Cup confrontations by defeating its Indonesian counterpart 3-1, in the match that brought them together in the first round of the group stage within the fourth group.

Iraq’s goals were scored by Muhannad Ali, Osama Rashid, and Ayman Hussein, in the 17th, 45th, and 75th minutes, while Marcelino Ferdinan scored Indonesia’s only goal in the 37th minute (the tie).

With this victory, the Iraqi team ranks second in the group standings with 3 points (the same score as Japan), while the Indonesian and Vietnamese teams remain without points.

Iraq, the 2007 Asian Cup champion and the 25th Gulf champion, will meet Japan in the second round, and Vietnam in the third and last group stage matches.
