The Iraqi Olympic team crowned the West Asian Championship at the expense of Iran
The Iraqi Olympic team won the West Asian U-23 Championship title for the first time in its history on Tuesday, by defeating its Iranian counterpart on penalties (5-4), after the end of the original and extra time with a positive draw (1-1).
The two teams faced off in the final match at Al-Madina International Stadium in Baghdad, which witnessed a large audience of 32,000 spectators.
The Iranian team advanced first through Hussein Saki in the (31st) minute, before Hussein Lawandi equalized the score in the (48th) minute.
The two teams resorted to penalty kicks, which was in favor of the Iraqi team, with a score (5-4).
The Iraqi Olympic player, Muntazer Muhammad “Kanoush”, won the best player award in the final match.
