Qatar leads the scene.. The history of the participation of the Gulf teams in the Youth World Cup

 

Argentina (which leads the golden record for winning the title with 6 times) will host the U-20 World Cup for the second time (after organizing the 13th edition in 2001), to be equal with Australia, which was unique in hosting the tournament in the two editions (1981, 1993), The Gulf countries hosted the Youth World Cup in 3 editions, starting with Saudi Arabia 1989, Qatar 1995, and then the UAE 2003.

The achievements of our Gulf teams in the tournament vary between the honor of participating and the distinguished results, but they drew attention during these participations.

Al-Adam scored the most prominent achievement of Gulf and Arab football, in the 1981 Australian edition, by becoming runner-up, as Al-Annabi finished runner-up in its group, and in the quarter-finals it achieved a historic victory at the expense of Brazil, and then overcame the hurdle of England in the semi-finals, before losing to Germany western.

In the 1989 edition, Iraq reached the quarter-finals, after winning all its matches in the first round over Norway, Argentina and Spain, and then losing in the quarter-finals to the United States of America.

In the 1997 edition in Malaysia, the UAE national team reached the second round of the championship, in which the number of teams participating in it increased for the first time to 24, but it was eliminated by Ghana.

In Argentina 2001, Iraq qualified, but was knocked out of the tournament in the first round.

In 2003, the UAE national team achieved its best achievement after reaching the quarter-finals in the tournament it hosted at home, after finishing third in its group, then winning the second round against Australia, before losing to Colombia.

In an Arab version held in Egypt in 2009, the UAE team reached the quarter-finals again, after finishing second in its group, then surpassed Venezuela in the second round, but lost to Costa Rica.

The Iraqi national team bore the banner of the Gulf and Arab football achievements in the 2013 edition in Turkey, by coming in fourth place, after leading its group, and in the second round it overcame the Paraguay hurdle, and in the quarter-finals at the expense of South Korea by a penalty shootout, but lost the bet in the same way in the semi-finals against Uruguay, and in the match for third place, the loss came to Ghana.

In the next two editions, the best achievement came with the Saudi national team crossing into the second round in the 2017 edition in South Korea, after finishing third in its group, before losing in the round of 16 against Uruguay.
