Khaled Salman.. the story of the historic scorer of Qatar National Team
One of the stars of the golden generation of Qatari football and Al-Sadd Club, he, accompanied by the youth team, reached the World Cup final, which Qatar lost to Germany, and scored the three goals against the Brazilian Samba.
He is the star of Al-Sadd Club and the Qatari national team, Khaled Salman Al-Muhannadi, who was born on the fifth of April 1962, one of the few who spent their football career inside one club. His story began with the ball in the Al-Sadd neighborhood, and due to the proximity of his house to the club he was watching the team’s training, and decided to join at the age of 14.
Khaled Salman began his 20-year career with the Al Sadd youth team in 1976, and achieved many achievements with the team, including the junior league in the 1977/1978 season, then moved in the following season 1978/1979 to the youth team, and in the same season he was promoted to the first team after being chosen by the coach Hassan Othman, to start his golden career with Al Sadd and participate in all tournaments locally, Gulf, Arab, Asian and Afro-Asian.
With many titles, until he announced his retirement in 1998, and perhaps the most prominent was the 1989 Asian Championship, where Salman scored the goal of winning the final during the return match against Al-Rasheed Al-Iraqi on the first day of Ramadan, and Al-Sadd lost the first leg, so that Al-Zaeem crowned the title for the first time in its history and would be the first An Arab club achieves this achievement.
Khaled Salman achieved with Al Sadd the Qatari League Championship, His Highness the Emir’s Cup, the Asian Championship, the Arab Championship, and the Gulf Cooperation Council Championship.
He participated with the youth team in the 1981 World Cup in Australia, and Qatar beat Brazil 3/2. The goals were signed by Khaled Salman. He also beat England 2/1 in the semi-final match, but Qatar got second place after losing to Germany.
Khaled Salman was also part of the Qatari Olympic delegation at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, and he starred remarkably and scored two goals against France, so that the Qatari press called him the historic scorer.
Khaled Salman joined the first national team from 1981 to 1991. He participated in approximately 135 matches and played in the 1986 Gulf Cup, scoring a goal against the UAE national team, and also participated in the 1988 edition.
